Recovery days ARE important after all...

Am I the only guy that sees "Recovery day" on his training plan and thinks to himself "...well, an easy 5-6 miles is no big deal, ssssssso maybe I can get some extra miles in on my recovery day..."? I know this completely violates the purpose of recovery days, but I have a hard time taking a day off completely.

Recovery days with NO running are the days your body heals, your fitness level is improved and your biological adaptations to your harder training efforts take place. Why in heaven's name would you deny your body the opportunity to rest?

Don't know.

I just can't seem to do it consistently.

  1. How about a nice swim, bike ride or walk in the park?
