A sneak peek at my week to peak

You can't imagine how hard I worked on that post title...

Because my next race is the Disney marathon on January 9, I have about four weeks of training left. and then I will taper for about 10 days. That means that my peak training weeks will be these next 3 coming up.

This week, I will cap Saturday with a long run of between 17-20 miles, depending on feel. This will bring my weekly mileage total to nearly 60. I am okay with that and feel strong and rested as the weekend gets closer.

Next week will bring a slightly lower mileage total because of the shorter long run, which will be around 18 miles. The objective for the week will be to continue gaining strength, building aerobic adaptation, and staying focused on my goals for race day at Dosney. Easier said than done, right?

I am going to try and be more careful in terms of not being too close to sick people as well. During peak training weeks, the immune system is usually degraded in its functioning and I have gotten several colds at this point in previous training cycles. I'm going to do what I can to try to improve my chances of remaining healthy for race day.

Drop a comment and let me know what your training is looking like, and how you handle the final weeks leading up to a goal face.

Keep running, guys !

  2. I'm with you about the sick people...and they always seem to find/follow you.
Your training looks great! I do pretty much the same and will cut back the last two weeks before the race and do only 3 or 4 short runs the last week. I only rest completely for 1 or 2 days, depending if I need to travel far. Have a great December!

  4. Great post title!!!

I will be in Disney too....and like you I'm hitting my peak miles. 23 last weekend, 20 coming up and a 26 miler two weeks after than...then it'll be about tapering time.

Sadly, I have to travel in the next couple of weeks and I'm very nervous about getting sick...Need to get some emergen-C and/or vitamin c to try and hope that it helps. I really can't afford to lose any training time due to illness.
