...of Silver Linings

Here is the Cliff Notes version of our day today:
   Unexpected

Here is what we are praying to learn from it:
  Don't be so caught up in the "normal" things of life, that we miss the miraculous things that make up the "normal" days.
==================================================

Have you ever realized that you completed a run somewhere, or perhaps even a race itself, and yet can't remember much about the scenery you traveled through? That happens to me all the time. I know I just traveled many, many miles through some spot of earth, and yet cannot recall 20 seconds worth of details about the sights, sounds, smells, and surroundings of what I surely ran by.

Just as in life, we get caught up in our own little "moment", that we fail to take into account just how much of our daily existence is miraculous in itself. It's so easy to take things for granted, or at least take them for given. Family, friends, health, jobs, security, stability, peace, joy... the list goes on and on.

What we learned today is that God is faithful to us, and has never, ever failed us. In fact, I'll go on record and report that He has, is, and will continue, to bless our Thor-Lo running quarter-socks off. I know that to be true.

And as we sit here at the tail end of this day, He has worked everything out. But I want to learn this lesson, and I want to learn it for good.

Lord, help us to not be in such a hurry along our journey, that we miss the miracles along the way...

  1. I do the same thing on runs. I often wish I was fast enough that during races I could be one of those people that stops to take pictures and really enjoy the sights and sounds. I hope to get there someday. In the meantime, I'll try to take some time during each run to just reflect on my surroundings and enjoy!

  2. Absolutely - I know part of my issue is that as a male, I'm of the super-competitive mindset. I focus on three things in a race; the start, the finish, and just how much pain I'm willing to eat in between the two!

    That's how men are wired, I suppose. Call it stupidity, dementia, or a million other diagnoses of mental shortcomings :)
